Floral design traces far back in the history of the world and can be traced back to two separate locations.  Egyptians started a occidental style of flower arrangements which were later developed by Europeans to become the traditional floral design of our time.  Another style of arrangement was formed in Asia.  This oriental style is still popular within Asia but has not become popular throughout the other nations of the world.  These two ancient examples show us that the beauty of flowers has been appreciated world wide for centuries. 

There is much evidence to show that Egyptians developed the idea of cut flowers placed in holders for decoration.  Beautiful and elaborate vases have been found in archeological findings throughout the country.  Pictures have also been found that depict Egyptian flower use.  Simple floral arrangements containing flowers, leaves and branches are found in many places throughout Egyptian history.  Many bright colored flowers were used as decoration, not only in vases but also in decoration of pottery.  Flowers were placed in un-dried pottery in elaborate patterns for decoration.  

Ancient Greek cultures also participated in flower arranging and decoration with them.  Though they did not arrange flowers in vase, much Greek mythology depicts the use of flowers in important occasions.  For many festivals flower petals were scattered on the ground and garlands were made to be worn around the neck.  The idea of wreaths also originated from Greece as a symbol of allegiance and dedication.   Greeks were also the first to use flowers in a funeral ceremony, and flowers were arranged on the grave of the deceased.   

Taking from both the Egyptian and Greek styles Europeans thrived in floral design in the Renaissance period.  Flowers were elaborately arranged in vases, large or small.  This is the time period where flower arrangements truly became an art.  Flowers were also worn for festivals, pageants or important occasions in garlands around the neck or wreaths around the head.  Many ideas and styles that originated in this time period are still used.   

From the Renaissance onward the art of flower arrangements grew and became popular on all continents and for many different occasions.  Flower arrangements have become elaborate and expressive using many flowers, some which have come to represent different things.   Flowers have come to play an important part in weddings, funerals, birthdays, and other celebrations world wide.  And though there are many styles world wide, there is a now a style of floral arrangement that is perfect for every occasion.   

In modern time there are many types of floral arrangements that you can order from a florist shop for many types of occasions.  Sprays that are arranged in a one sided pattern are very common for funerals.  Bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres are all common floral arrangements that are worn in weddings. Weddings also usually have elaborate, and sometimes extremely large, floral decoration that can be hung on walls or placed on tables.  There are still many types of vase arrangements that can fit many special occasions such as birthdays, holidays or anniversaries.  All arrangements can range in size and flower arrangement to allow them to become more personal.  

In addition to types of arrangements there are now many more then one type of florist shop available.  Online florists have become very popular with our new technological based world.  This allows smaller arrangements to be ordered and delivered online.  Also for smaller florist gifts a personal or local florist will be able to meet your needs. Some small scale florists set up greenhouse kits, for quick and easy growth. For larger occasions larger florists are needed.  Many wholesale florists specialize in wedding and funeral arrangements.  Wedding florists can assist customers arrange the perfect wedding flowers, bridal bouquets and corsages for their special day.  Funeral flowers can also be arranged in the perfect way to express your loss for a loved one.
